The Essex Swimming League (ESL) is an annual team-based swimming competition for clubs across Essex. It’s all about representing your club, racing alongside teammates, and earning points at each gala to contribute to your team’s overall league standing.
The league typically runs with four galas each season, spread out from the autumn into the spring. Each gala’s results add to the club’s total, and at the end of the season, final league positions are confirmed.
There are usually two divisions, with promotion and relegation between them during the season — adding a fun competitive edge as clubs battle to move up the rankings.
The galas are a great opportunity for swimmers to race in a team environment, build club spirit and support one another — and it’s an exciting chance to swim outside of individual meets!
