Zonal Finals for Peterson
Lee Peterson competed at the ASA Central Zone Competition in Corby on 27th January 2013. The 38 year old gained 4th place in the finals of the 100m breaststroke event despite strong competition against swimmers with an average age of 19 1/2! Peterson, who also coaches at the club and inspires the younger swimmers, also achieved 7th place in the 50m breaststroke finals.
Pleased with both his technically proficient swims, Petersonis a positive example of what the older athlete can achieve, and states,“The water doesn't know what age you are when you dive in, and I've got no intention of telling it!”
Launch of Swim Academy
Braintree & Bocking Swimming Club launched its swimming Academy on 7th January. A major expansion for the club; this exciting new initiative aims to provide a top quality introduction into competitive swimming and welcomed more than 50 new members to the clubs swimming programme.
Providing a skill and fun based programme for children that will enable them to improve their water skills, the Academy is not geared solely towards competition. The structure provides the opportunity for individuals to follow a pathway that is appropriate for them and whether or not they want to move into the mainstream training programme, all swimmers will still receive tailored and expert tuition in conjunction with the club.
Peter Downham, Head Coach, says he is ”thrilled at the opportunity to provide what we believe to be the very best swimming programme in Essex”.
Bexley Open Meet
A small team of swimmers travelled south of the river to the ‘last chance county qualifier’ at Bexley at the beginning of January. Braintree & Bocking Swimming Club were one of 20 clubs attending the short course open meet and our swimmers picked up a few more county times.
Swimmers attending the event were Rosie Boden, Eleanor Burder, Aimee Cade, Verity Forster, Lucy Greenwood, Georgia & Morgan Harrod, Charlotte Speakman, Myles English, Monty Forster, Daniel Lambert and Ben & Jack Speakman.
Braintree and Bocking Swimming Club has exceeded club records this season with a total of 45 swimmers qualifying for over 250 events at the County Championships during February and March 2013. Well done and good luck to you all!
Junior Swimmers of the Month - December
The ’Junior Swimmer of the Month’ titles for December were awarded to Jasmine Horsham and Morgan Foster. Mike has been impressed with both Jasmine and Morgan’s commitment to their swimming. He says, ‘This, together with their hard work and good concentration has helped them both improve on all of their strokes. Jasmine has worked very hard and has now moved into a new squad and I wish her well and Morgan continues to gain confidence and strength in his swimming’. Well done to you both and keep up the excellent work!
