Most Improved Swimmers September 2019

It’s been a little while since we last gave these out so we are giving out 6 this month. These go to....

Regional Open Water Championships

A group of BBSC swimmers took to Norwich for the East Region Open Water Championships in July. This was the first time BBSC has entered an event like this, it was a lovely day in the sun with some amazing results!

The girls category was extremely competitive this year. Representing Braintree were Kathryn Edwards and Sophie Ball swimming 1K as well as Rosie Henn swimming 2k. Sophie Ball achieved 4th place in the county and 6th place in the region for this event. Kathryn Edwards achieved 6th place in the county and 13th place in the region for her swim. Rosie Henn achieved a 3rd place award in the county and a 4th place in the region overall for her 2k swim. The girls were very happy with their efforts!

Representing the boys were Charles Rennie, Samuel Rennie and Matthew Pack. All the boys competed in the 2k event with some impressive results. Charles Rennie achieved a 1st place award in both the county and the region in his age group. Samuel Rennie achieved a 1st place award in the county and 4th in the region for his swim. Matthew Pack achieved a 3rd place award in the county and 6th in the region overall. With some impressive swims, this meet was a huge success and a great experience!

Regional Youth Championships

Congratulations to the six swimmers who competed at the Regional Youth Championships in Luton, with two, Samuel Rennie and Morgan Foster, making multiple finals. Samuel achieved fifth place in both his finals, in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke. Morgan finished fifth in the 200m Individual Medley and seventh in the 50m Freestyle. He also finished eighth in the 200m Butterfly and swam in the 50m Backstroke, 50m and 100m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke.

Charles Rennie and Lee Peterson competed in the 50m Breaststroke in the Open age group, with Charles also swimming the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and Lee the 100m Breaststroke. Charlie Boden competed in the 50m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly whilst the only female to qualify, Nancy Neave, competed in the 15 years age group in the 50m and 100m Butterfly, and 50m Freestyle, placing in the top 20 in each of her events.

Regional Age Groups Report

Ten swimmers from BBSC spent their Bank Holiday weekend in Norwich, at the East Region Age Group Championships. Sophie Clerkin competed in six events, making four finals, with her best finish a fourth place in the 50m Freestyle, agonisingly close to a medal. She also made the finals of the 100m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke. Thomas Underdown had a packed schedule, swimming in the 50m, 100m, and 200m Breaststroke and the 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke.

In the 50m Breaststroke there were strong swims from Hollie Heighes and Ella Greatbach, both 11 year olds swimming in the mixed 11/12 age group. They finished 2nd and 3rd fastest 11 year olds in the field. Marcie Aley competed in the 50m and 200m Breaststroke, whilst Finley Petts and Sophie Ball swam the 50m Butterfly, and Collin Okusaga and Sophie O’Rorke competed in the 50m Freestyle. Harry Rose finished as third fastest 11 year old in the mixed 11/12 age group 50m Backstroke.
